When we redesigned our website, it was a complete rework; out with the old and definitely ‘in with the new.’ We had shown photos of ourselves on our previous site but to be honest they were five years old and our studio has moved on a great deal since we were married. We were eager that the new imagery for our site reflected the way we work together and the process involved when designing wedding stationery as a husband and wife team.
We have worked with Sarah Folega many times over the last two years and it was great to have her in our studio for the day to take photos of us working alongside each other. She also understands perfectly how we work as a duo and what goes on behind the scenes.
Now the studio has grown, we have had to adopt very clearly distinct roles and we stick to these rigidly. As a graphic designer Toby is responsible for the overall design of all our paper goods but I am always the main point of contact and will work alongside him to ensure the overall vision is set in stone! I love to style our stationery for shoots and am responsible for all our social media accounts. However we know that our business can only move forward if we work in tandem.
Working professionally alongside each other is not without it’s pitfalls and it took a little time for us to find our rhythm. Being completely honest, in the beginning we tried to be all things to all people. Emails became confusing as we both attempted to share the responsibility and communication was difficult when we were quibbling over the tiny details. We have definitely learnt from our mistakes – we have very different strengths and are respectful of that fact. Collectively we have a shared vision for the studio and are well aware of the part we have to play in it’s success. Toby has many years experience working within the design industry but he knows that I will be the one to ponder over the finer details. As our name suggests, this is a partnership that cannot thrive without the other but there will be days when we have disagreements about fonts and colours!
Couples who have worked alongside us have felt reassured that we work in the way we do; after all we understand that you are individuals and may both have different opinions as to how your day will look and feel. It is our job to make sure we bring your plans together as a partnership and believe us when we say, we really do get it.
If you would like to drop us a line or simply say hello then we would love to hear from you via our social media forums or through our contact page.
